View from O’Reilly’s Hill [overlooking Newstaed, the Brisbane River, Bulimba and Hamilton]

Sepia albumen print photograph (17.6 x 22.8 cm) mounted on card with printed ornamental border and printed caption below the image.* The mount board with some minimal foxing and a few brown spots, verso with child’s pencil scribbles, and a pencil caption in a neat hand, paper abrasion along one edge verso, where the board was mounted in an album, the image with a small 5mm circular surface stain in bottom right, only very minimally faded and with very good tonality. * The image was part of the albums produced and retailed by Watson’s & Co. in the 1870s. It appears in an album held at the State Library of Queensland (APE-015) which has a title page dated 1875. * Our image has a penciled year of 1873 on the verso. * The view takes in Newstead (with Newstead House), Hamilton Hill and Bulimba across the river.
