Published anonymously, but the NLA catalogue record adds: ‘Available from Ms F. Budden, Doiley Publications, 61 Westmoreland Street, Glebe, N.S.W. 2037’ * * Frances Phoenix (née Budden) (1950-2017) was an Australian feminist artist known for needlework and poster designs. * “In 1978 Frances was a one of eight artists who exhibited in ‘An exhibition of work by homosexual and lesbian artists’, at Watters Gallery in Sydney, the first explicitly gay and lesbian art exhibition in Australia, held as part of the 4th National Homosexual Conference. Frances’ work included sketched portraits of those attending the first Mardi Gras which were published in a small anonymous artist book, ‘Portraits of a Mardi Gras” (Australian Gay and Lesbian Archives Facebook page, ‘Vale Frances Phoenix, posted 11 July 2017). * Trove records only two copies at NLA and SLNSW.
