In 1855 he published ‘De France en Chine’ in Paris. * Melchior Yvan (1806 – 1873) was a French doctor and professor of natural history in Marseille. He was the Doctor of the Lagrené mission to China from 1843 – 1845. Upon his return he entered politics, sitting with the moderate left. Following the coup d’état of December 2, 1851, he was exiled to Brussels but returned to Paris in 1854. * In this book he gives an account of the voyage to China, with chapters on Teneriffe, Brazil, the Cape of Good Hope, and the Isle of Bourbon (Ile de la Reunion). * Rare.
