Prize bindings of King Edward VI’s School, Bury St Edmund’s. * Minimal rubbing to spine-ends and corners, some rubbing to upper boards, more so to vol. 3, some discolouration to boards, stamps of the seminary library at Banyo, Brisbane on first blank leaves (but no other library markings), inscription on first blank leaf of vol. 1: King Edward VI’s School, Bury St Edmunds. Prize given by J A Hardcastle Esp. M.P. for the Encouragement of English Literature. Mids. 1865. J.H. Flower. * Joseph Alfred Hardcastle (1815-1899) was an English Liberal politician who sat in the House of Commons. He was educated at Mill Hill School and the Grammar School at Bury St Edmunds. At the 1857 general election he was elected for Bury St Edmunds, and held the seat until his defeat at the 1874 general election.
